I stumbled upon this farm-house on my way home from Lincoln late one Saturday evening. Hidden in a grove of trees, next to a vast corn field, the peeling house with its little gate spoke to me. The second I stepped out of my truck I was immediately swarmed by mosquitos, and of course, I forgot my damn bug spray!
The motor of a combine hummed in the distance. As the light faded, everything stopped while I snapped pictures.
The leaves hung silent and still, and the thick summer air sweltered. Sweat beaded along my hairline, attracting swarms of gnats and mosquitos, but none of it mattered.
Each time I happen upon one of these worn out farms, I feel privileged – like I was meant to find them. Beauty lives in everything. Light lives in the darkest places. It takes a unique perspective to bring the beauty and light to the surface.

After I left this house, covered in tiny itchy welts from mosquito bites and greasy with dried sweat, I stopped at one last place. The sun slid over the tree line, its final glint of light cascading across the tassels of grasses and entangled tree branches. I found a weathered barn nestled next to a stone foundation on top of a hill. I captured some beautiful shots of the sunset.
